the work we create together

Selected Student Work

These projects were created by students I’ve had the pleasure of teaching and mentoring. Each one shows their growth, creativity, and ability to bring ideas to life through design. I encourage a hands-on, thoughtful approach, and this work reflects their commitment to exploring, experimenting, and pushing their skills forward.

Battle of the Bands

Design 1

DESN 101

Students designed album covers for fictional bands, with each cover representing a distinct musical genre and identity. Working with fictional bands avoided the influence of existing branding or established aesthetics, allowing for greater originality and creative freedom. The goal of the project was to develop students’ ability to use design to communicate genre, mood, and understand how visual cues shape interpretation.

At the end of the semester, the work was displayed in an exhibition set up like a record store, offering students a creative and immersive space to celebrate their designs.

Everyday Poster

Design 1

DESN 151

Students created a series of posters promoting everyday activities, transforming ordinary tasks into major events worth promoting. No activity was considered too mundane, whether it was taking out the trash or making a cup of tea.

Developed while online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic, when many were confined to their homes, the project reflected how routine moments took on new meaning. The goal was to explore how design can elevate the everyday, use visual language to reframe the trivial as significant, and unify a series through consistent design elements.

Native App

ContemporaryWeb Design 2

MMDD 231

In this assignment, students designed a prototype for a native iOS storefront application. The goal is to create a unique brand identity for an imaginary store that showcases and sells original product designs. They had the flexibility to choose the type of store, allowing for creativity in aligning the app’s design with the store’s theme and target audience.

The aim was to demonstrate a comprehensive visualization of both the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design, leveraging the lessons on human-centered design that we explored during the semester.

Capstone Project

Major Studio

GDES 354

This is a self-directed, semester-long project in which final semester students are given the freedom to define both the topic and format, allowing them to focus on an area that aligns with personal interests and portfolio goals.

Throughout the semester, students work with the professor in a role similar to that of a creative director, receiving guidance, feedback, and support at key milestones. While students are responsible for leading the direction of their projects, they will participate in regular check-ins and critiques to ensure the work remains industry standard.
